Cycling Wish List
- Shimano CL-MT001
- A new SPD cleat plate from Shimano. Give it a try with my Garmin
pedals, and if it doesn't squeak, refit all of my cycling shoes.
- Shimano Ultegra Di2
- I am thinking about upgrading the groupset on my Émonda
to Shimano Ultegra Di2. I should start by identifying all the
components and pricing it out. I might be better off buying a new
bike.

- Update (June 21, 2025): I spoke to Brad at the Arnold Trek
store. He quoted me a price of $2800 for the new drivetrain, and
$200 for his shop to do the installation. There are packages he
doesn't have direct access to, but if I find one at a good price, he
said he would try to match the price (but there's Arnold sales tax).
When asked if I would be better off getting a new bike, he told me I
should look at the Madone instead of a newer Emonda. The Madone is
now just as light as the Emonda, more aerodynamic, and more
"compliant".
- Madone SL 7 Gen 8 (Ultegra Di2) is $7150. It has a 11-34t
cassette, instead of the 11-30 I have now (but I would probably get
that if I upgraded my drivetrain anyway).
- Carbon Wheelset for Checkpoint
- An upgraded wheelset for my Checkpoint. Carbon rims, great
hubs.
- Touring Wheelset for Checkpoint
- A sturdy touring wheelset for my Checkpoint.
Phil Wood
Touring Hub, heavy-duty rims and spokes.
Summer Kit
I have enough jerseys. I'm not sure how many bib shorts I have. If I
have less than four pairs I like, not counting the special purpose ones I
reserve for long rides, then I should buy some more.
Night Riding
- Castelli Free Aero Race S Bibshort, White
- These appear to be Castelli's only bibshorts available in
white. $250.
- Redshift Arclight Pro Clipless Pedals
- Should significantly increase my visibility during night rides.
Of course, if I use these, I will lose any power or cadence data
normally provided by my Garmin Rally pedels.
MTB
- Full-Face Helmet
- Probably the Giro Coalition Spherical? Update: Giro now
has more than one spherical full-face helmet. Get the one with the
best ventilation?
- MTB Gloves
- Gloves for MTB riding.
- Five Ten Trailcross GORE-TEX MTB Shoes
- If I'm going to ride much on the Ozark Trail, I will definitely
want waterproof MTB shoes. These are evidently the ones to get.
$220, available in men's size 7.
- Long Sleeve MTB Jerseys
- I have a couple of short-sleeve MTB jerseys now. I should get a
couple of long-sleeve ones.
- PI Canyon LS Jersey $55
PI Rove Flannel (LS) $92
PI Elevate LS Jersey $65
Winter & Rain
- 45NRTH Naughtvind Pants
- I'm hearing good things (from Todd Morgan) about these pants.
- Pearl Izumi
Expedition
PRO Alpha Jacket
- "Winter jacket" for "dry, cold days". This looks like it might
be a less water-resistant version of my PRO Insulated Jacket, which I
like a lot. Dark Violet is a good
color.
- Pearl Izumi
PRO
Winter Jacket
- "Winter jacket" for "wet, cold days". Red Dahlia is a good
color.
- Assos Speerhaube Sock Covers
- A bit like the Toe Thingy, but goes over the sock rather than
over the shoe.
- Castelli Foul Weather Cream
- Some kind of skin protection during rain and maybe cold?
- Rapha Deep Winter Socks
- Someone said these work very well.
- 45NRTH Winter Socks
- I should try them.
