SEMO Plain

For lack of a better name, I am just going to call this the SEMO plain. It is the southeast corner of Missouri that falls outside of the Ozark Plateau. It includes Sikeston, New Madrid, Dexter, and the entire bootheel. Cape Girdardeau and Poplar Bluff are on the edge.

The reason I am interested in this plain is that it is criss-crossed with gravel roads, spaced approximately every mile, and they are basically flat. One need only find a place to park. There are numerous conservation areas within this plain, as well as some other kinds of parks and public land. I should organize rides based on parking spots.

Sand Prairie CA

This is probably the closest place to park in the main part of the plain, right off I-55 at exit 80. Update: The gravel on the roads around here were loose and chunky, and not pleasant to ride. Undoubtedly new. The CA is an interesting little spot.

Cape Lacroix Bluffs CA

Even closer than Sand Prairie CA, this is in the valley near Cape Girardeau. It's close to the Mississippi River. I'm not sure there is anywhere to ride from here.

General Watkins CA

This CA is in the Ozark Plateau, but it is at the point that dips down into the plain, at the intersection of US-61 and Hwy 77. Also fairly close to I-55 exit 80. Update: I didn't see any gravel around here.

Mingo Wilderness, Mingo NWR, Duck Creek CA

This is big, and it's surrounded by Ozark terrain on two sides. I'm not sure how good the riding is around here.

Dan River Access

This is somewhat close to Poplar Bluff, but not so close to I-55.

Big Cane CA

This is right on the Missouri-Arkansas border.

Sand Pond CA

This is right on the Missouri-Arkansas border.

Coon Island CA

This is on the Black River

Campbell City Park

In Campbell, MO.

St. Francis Sunken Lands WMA

This is primarily in Arkansas, but a little bit of this is in the corner of the bootheel. I'm not sure if there is any place to park on the Missouri side.

Hornersville Swamp CA

In the bootheel on the Missouri-Arkansas border. The main interest to me is to lay eyes on the five parallel canals.

Donaldson Point CA

Near New Madrid. Donaldson Point is the bit of Missouri that isolates a portion of Kentucky, and it is also east of part of Tennessee.
