I found Google's definitions under "Biking trails" on this Google support page:
- Dark green: Trails that don't have auto traffic.
- Green: Dedicated lanes are roads that are shared with cars and have a separate bike lane.
- Dotted green line: Bicycle-friendly roads are roads that don't have a bike lane but are recommended for cyclists.
- Brown: Unpaved trails are off-road dirt paths.
By this definition, a gravel road with large rock is still considered a "trail" as long as vehicle traffic is prohibited. To me, this would be an important distinction, but evidently not to Google.
And "recommended for cyclists"? The entirity of Jeffco Blvd. is currently shown this way, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Maybe this is a topic to bring to Bike Forums.
