Trek Émonda SL 5

My road bike is a 2021 Trek Émonda SL 5.

I purchased it on August 31, 2021. If I have decoded the serial number correctly, it is a 2021 model year bike, manufactured on December 1, 2020.

Tires

Schwalbe ONE 365
This is what Schwalbe offers for winter road tires. They are basically just a 4-season version of their Addix compound that has "plenty of grip even at low temperatures". They aren't particularly puncture resistant, but they are lighter than the Durano Plus. Installed: Dec 19, 2024 at 5207.9 miles.
Schwalbe Durano Plus 700x28mm
Schwalbe claims these are "the most puncture resistant road bike tire available", and they appear to be one of the two most respected tires for puncture resistance. In about 4500 miles, I had only a few punctures, and the rear started to get a little squarish.
Bontrager R1 700x28mm Hard-Case Lite
These are the tires that came with my my Émonda. They are just basic slicks. I rode about 750 miles on them before taking them off, and I still have them as spares. Worn, they weigh 341g each.

Tire Inflation:
Front: 60 PSI
Rear: 70 PSI

Tubes

Kenda 700x20-28c 48mm Presta
The valve stem on these is plenty long enough on my 32mm carbon fiber rims. The width/diameter is just perfect for 28mm tires. I think I will standardize on these. I will have to stock up.
Kenda 700x20-28c 33mm Presta
The valve stem was almost too short, and that must have been on my old aluminum rims, not the new carbon fiber ones.
Continental Race 28 (700c) Wide (25-32mm) 42mm Presta
The valve stems on these are just barely long enough for my carbon rims, but they are a little inconveniently short sometimes.

Drivetrain

Chainring: 50/34t

Ratio: 1.133 to 4.545

Rear Shifter Cable: Shimano Optislick Y60198100 [installed Sep 4, 2024 @ 4483 miles]

Brake Pads

I have replaced the rear brake pads with BP-L05A-RF, [installed Oct 3, 2025 @ 6021 miles]. The front pads are still the originals that came with the bike.

Bar Tape

Last year, I had Lizard Skins 2.5mm bar tape installed. It doesn't seem thick enough. This year, I put 3.2mm bar tape on my Checkpoint. We'll see how I like it, but initially it seems better. On this bike, I think I should go back to black. Lizard Skins does sell a Sky Blue version, instead of the Cobalt Blue set I got this last time, but I don't think I want to stand out so much.
